ahead of the curve to stay relevant.

answers podcast was conceived to
10
:keep you informed and competitive.
11

12
:experts, leaders, advisors, vendors,
and influencers in the last few
13
:months and collected for you the
very best and latest thinking on

:I've asked the same five questions
throughout covering the next
21
:generation of accountants.
22
:The proactive advice they need to be
given the drivers have changed the
23
:role of tech and software vendors
post the best predictions for the
24
:next few years, let's get started and
hear what our experts have to say.
25
:We've been focusing all
this week on the question.
26
:What could the tech software vendors
do better to serve accountants?
27
:The answers you hear covered?
28
:The vendor accountant relationship and the
needs of accountants that are not being
29
:addressed by current accounting software.
30
:How could this software be more
user-friendly and intuitive for
31
:accountants and their clients?
32
:How is AI playing its part in the
evolution of the accounting role,
33
:all these aspects and more come out.
34
:As we check out the answers
of our resident experts.
35
:Um, next is the wonderful Roger connect
president of universal accounting
36
:center off the host father, husband,
who brings a holistic approach.
37
:To accounting education focusing on
both personal and professional growth.
38
:Roger Knecht: Beautiful question.
39
:My thinking is, is that the accounting
software, the programs, the vendors that
40
:are out there servicing the accounting
community need to actually help us not
41
:just do tactile work, the commoditization
of the work of the accounting that we
42
:do, what they need to do is therefore,
basically help us answer the question
43
:of how does this apply or what's next?
44
:And I'm going to suggest that what.
45
:Every accounting vendor, every
software company that services
46
:the accounting community needs to
answer is therefore what here we
47
:are, we're doing this automation,
we're systematizing this process.
48
:We're automating this.
49
:We're bringing in the AI.
50
:Once we have all this systematized,
therefore, how do we actually
51
:take this to the clients we
service and help them take this?
52
:Systemization that we've done the
automation that we've done and now answer
53
:the question, therefore, what, and that's
something that I would like to see every
54
:company be able to explain and answer.
55
:They've systematized something.
56
:they've accelerated the process
of doing something, simplified it.
57
:Therefore, what?
58
:Rob Brown: John.
59
:And the debate now is Russell Frain
director transformation at gravity
60
:way's expertise with technology is
redefining how accounting firms leverage
61
:technology for better service delivery.
62
:Russell Frayne: Absolutely.
63
:And two things always stick out
for me, and I've spoken to many
64
:vendors about this as well.
65
:So, one is optimizing their platform,
as I think too often vendors can, leave
66
:accounting firms to figure it out on their
own, which can result in suboptimal use.
67
:reduces the return on investment from
the firm, which means that sometimes
68
:they give up on software adoption at
all because they don't see the benefit.
69
:plus there's a lot of wastage in the
cloud accounting space with undeployed
70
:subscriptions, floating all over the
place that the firms are paying for,
71
:which are sort of being returned as.
72
:adoption metrics for software
vendors, which is skewing
73
:the actual adoption rates.
74
:I think, practices have a scattered
approach to technology adoption as they
75
:move from platform to platform, looking
for some magic secret bullet to success.
76
:So I think getting the best out
of the platforms absolutely from
77
:a vendor perspective is a focus.
78
:And then secondly, is the soft
skill and change management
79
:support because these are skills
that accountants don't inherently
80
:have and they're not trained on.
81
:So when you do your training, you
don't get trained on change management,
82
:transformation, soft skills.
83
:So any support bringing
people along on the journey.
84
:is value add from a
software vendor perspective.
85
:And we've seen this with some vendors
historically who have paired a partner
86
:consultant with an account manager to
help deliver and deploy to get the most
87
:from a solution, which then leverages the
best return on investment for the business
88
:and the business owner or the practice.
89
:But from a vendor perspective, you've
got the optimal long term value in
90
:terms of the client's stickiness.
91
:So when you kind of pair, you know, best
in breed technology with an accountant
92
:optimized, you end up with, the best
overall result from my experience anyway.
93
:Rob Brown: And now insights from
Seth Feinberg business journalist
94
:turned accounting, professional
consultant and content strategist who
95
:uses his media expertise to elevate
the conversations around accounting
96
:practices and industry trends.
97
:Seth Fineberg: Talk to each other more.
98
:Be present.
99
:Be, like, you listen on both sides.
100
:They both need to, be on
the same page a lot more.
101
:I understand that, developers on the
software side, you know, they, tend to
102
:do things in a bit of their own, bubble.
103
:Just as accountants do.
104
:Accountants, do things in their own way.
105
:One of the reasons why, particularly
with practice management systems.
106
:there's always something that,
frustrates, the accountant because
107
:it's not that necessarily something
wasn't built right for them.
108
:It's just, they just have
their own way of doing things.
109
:So there are certain things that exist
in a bubble on the developer side, on
110
:the accountant side, but by and large,
they're only going to, you really,
111
:you know, move everything forward,
move the entire profession forward
112
:if they're on the same page, more.
113
:So that's, that's something I
think that, They should be doing
114
:better, to, you know, to serve
115
:Rob Brown: accounts.
116
:We now tend to sit down with Qatari owner
digital outsourcing services, a strategic
117
:partner to accountants, where he provides
innovative outsourcing solutions that
118
:enhance efficiency and capacity for
accounting firms all over the world.
119
:Siddarth Kothari: so right now there are
very, tight competition in the technology
120
:industry to provide more and more
solutions to the accountancy industry,
121
:and there are very good companies who have
come to a very breakthrough technology
122
:to do much and much of an impact on
how accountancy firms are working.
123
:Let's just think of bookkeeping, right?
124
:It has changed significantly
on how everyone is working
125
:right now all over the world.
126
:But the thing is, now the accountancy
firms would also be looking on how they're
127
:leveraging technology because if they are
subscribing to, let's say, 10 different
128
:technologies, one would be for bookkeeping
or tech, accounting or practice
129
:management, or taxes, filings, everything.
130
:the most important thing
they would be looking for.
131
:They should be looking for.
132
:Is that the technology should
not be overlapping different
133
:subscriptions, different technologies
that they're already using.
134
:So the tech industry would be now also
focusing on those areas that how they
135
:are being niche in their services, their
products, their, their service developers.
136
:And the second thing is, that would
be a game changing is the, strong
137
:customer back office support.
138
:Because if they are having an issues on
a real time basis for their accounts,
139
:for their audits, for any other, uh,
requirements, they should have a team
140
:in the software companies in the tech
companies will be, uh, you know, available
141
:to speak to them, provide a support.
142
:solution at that moment, and then
the accountancy don't, uh, miss
143
:out any deadlines or they don't
feel any backlogs because of that.
144
:So, yeah, that would be much, much impact.
145
:Rob Brown: Next step
is a favorite of mine.
146
:One of the most respected accounting
influences in the United Kingdom
147
:and certainly a big figure in
the round table that we run here.
148
:It's Steve Cox.
149
:Accountant thought leader,
technology, strategist.
150
:20-year software vendor veteran.
151
:Who brings a wealth of experience
in leveraging technology to solve
152
:complex accounting challenges.
153
:Here he comes.
154
:Steve Cox: Being a software vendor, I'm
working for one for many, many years.
155
:We've worked hand in glove with
accountants globally for, well, certainly
156
:for my reign of 21 years, but from
an Irish perspective for 45 years.
157
:However, is the job done?
158
:No, we've got to continue to work really
closely with accountants and bookkeepers
159
:to be able to understand what they need.
160
:So it's a constant listening
piece, which is something that any
161
:software vendor should be doing
is listening to the profession.
162
:To understand the challenges of what's
going on, what could we be doing better?
163
:Ultimately, showing people how
to use the software better,
164
:how to get the most out of it.
165
:It's a worrying statistic that actually
most firms that buy software only use
166
:about 20 percent of its functionality.
167
:You're not getting a great return
on your investment for that.
168
:It's on the software vendors
primary objectives to get them
169
:to use as much as possible.
170
:It doesn't drive additional
revenue, but what it does do
171
:is drive customer satisfaction.
172
:And ultimately, a happy customer is one
that's going to stay longer and buy more.
173
:So actually, it's a win win for both.
174
:So really, it's around how do you
get the most out of the software
175
:that we're providing to accountants.
176
:Rob Brown: So they have five
grand answer to the question.
177
:What could the tech and software vendors
do better to serve accountants each
178
:work in depth that week, Monday through
Friday, we give you the insights of five
179
:top influencers in the accounting world.
180
:On this critical area of the
tech providers, software vendors
181
:and how they serve accountants.
182
:That's 25 valuable perspectives,
viewpoints and best thinking every week.
183
:And with each fresh week comes a
fresh question and more thoughts
184
:from the best accounting leaders
and influences we can find.
