The future of accountant, isn't just about

2

:

numbers and financial statements.

3

:

It's about empowering businesses to make

informed decisions, navigate complex

4

:

challenges, achieve their financial goals.

5

:

And everyone recognized that Kansans

are at the heart of this and must become

6

:

trusted partners with business acumen

expertise in data analytics, storytelling,

7

:

strategic guidance, taking the clients

towards success and whatever your role

8

:

is in this ecosystem, you need to stay

ahead of the curve to stay relevant.

9

:

And that's why this accounting

answers podcast was conceived to

10

:

keep you informed and competitive.

11

:

I'm your host, Rob brown, and

I've interviewed 111 accounting

12

:

experts, leaders, advisors, vendors,

and influencers in the last few

13

:

months and collected for you the

very best and latest thinking on

14

:

what works and what is coming up.

15

:

And this week, they show 10 to 15

minutes gets you the low down on

16

:

what matters today in the rapidly

evolving accounting landscape.

17

:

And the professional is shed

in its traditional image of

18

:

number crunching, embracing a

bold new future data technology,

19

:

strategic guidance, reign Supreme.

20

:

I've asked the same five questions

throughout covering the next

21

:

generation of accountants.

22

:

The proactive advice they need to be

given the drivers have changed the

23

:

role of tech and software vendors

post the best predictions for the

24

:

next few years, let's get started and

hear what our experts have to say.

25

:

Today, we're again, asking

people who care about accounting.

26

:

A simple question.

27

:

What role do the tech providers

and software vendors play in

28

:

the evolution of the industry?

29

:

Technology's playing an increasingly

crucial role in the accounting profession.

30

:

And the consensus is the tech industry

needs to step up to meet the evolving

31

:

demands of accountants, but how exactly.

32

:

Listening as another five of our

111 influencers and experts share

33

:

their wisdom and their best insights.

34

:

I'm really excited now to bring to

the microphone, the influencer of

35

:

influences in the accounting world.

36

:

The heavyweight accounting guru

that is Randy Johnston fault leader

37

:

and genuine Renault-Nissan sprit

for all accounting technology.

38

:

Known for his deep knowledge of

accounting tech and his ability

39

:

to inspire innovation and change

within the accounting world.

40

:

Randy Johnston: Well, here, the

tech industry hasn't served the

41

:

accountants very well, and the

accounting software vendors,

42

:

frankly, have, drugged their feet.

43

:

And so the lack of innovation

in the last three to four years,

44

:

in particular, and it has nothing

in my mind to do with pandemic.

45

:

It has everything to do with

vision and investment, need to.

46

:

Rebuild products that are

simpler and more complete.

47

:

And that's a real tall order.

48

:

but what happens here is the tools

that we're using in many cases

49

:

are 20 and 30 year old designs.

50

:

And today there are so much better ways,

so many better ways that this, technology

51

:

can be used to automate processes, to

improve workflows, to improve business

52

:

exchanges, to, do mundane things

that doesn't have to be done manually.

53

:

So it's a pretty tall order,

both the public practice tools.

54

:

And the accounting software tools

are doing pretty major overhauls.

55

:

People are trying, but they may

not have quite the budgets or

56

:

runways to get those accomplished.

57

:

The next voice you'll hear is Randy

Woodson CEO at Advising B2B SAS

58

:

companies on next stage growth,

where he's expertise, guides,

59

:

firms through scaling challenges.

60

:

With strategic insights

and operational excellence.

61

:

Randy Wooton: This is the question

that I am struggling with as someone

62

:

trying to sell to accountants.

63

:

the accountants that I've talked

to, the firms that I've talked to

64

:

specifically in the B2B SaaS space

are just anxious, anxious about what's

65

:

happening in the broader B2B space.

66

:

There is a tech recession going

on, meaning every client is

67

:

tightening their belts and looking

at ways they can save their money.

68

:

So any accountant that's trying to

encourage them to buy new technology is

69

:

probably going to be falling on deaf ears.

70

:

So as a vendor to an accountancy, the

thing that I think we need to be clear

71

:

is how we help that accountant get more

for less, meaning they can hire fewer

72

:

people, they can support more clients,

and they're able to get more scale.

73

:

And I think as accountancies

are facing hiring challenges as

74

:

well, that's a long term play.

75

:

There is a challenge in terms of the

upfront cost to learn new technologies,

76

:

and I think some accountancies right

now and, controllers and fractional

77

:

CFOs are just so overwhelmed with

everything that it's just too hard

78

:

for them to consider, anything.

79

:

So, what we try to do is we want

to help them win new business.

80

:

And so that is thinking about

technology plus services.

81

:

So, if we do a webinar with consulting

firm or accounting firm, it's

82

:

like, hey, here's what Maxfield can

provide in terms of data and tech.

83

:

But to get the value out of this customer,

you're going to need a service provider.

84

:

Here's our service providers

that we've worked with that

85

:

know how to use our technology.

86

:

So I do think it's a little bit

of investment on either side.

87

:

but the promise is that we can help

them win more business and they

88

:

can serve that more business more

efficiently, which would increase

89

:

their profitability over time.

90

:

Rob Brown: Coming to him now is

Richard Kopelman CEO at one of north

91

:

America's fastest growing accounting.

92

:

where his leadership has been

instrumental in driving growth,

93

:

innovation and client success.

94

:

Richard Kopelman: What we've done in

order to facilitate the growth in our

95

:

business, the foothold, the growth, the

foothold of technology in our business

96

:

has been to be part of the roadmap.

97

:

of the tech companies.

98

:

So I think one of the things to

continue to do and do it even better

99

:

is to involve the technicians in

the development of the technology

100

:

and the roadmap of the technology.

101

:

Rob Brown: Coming up now is the

entertaining and educational.

102

:

Nixon who coaches, accountants on

creating massive profits and massive

103

:

time-savings transforming practices

with these revolutionary approaches to

104

:

practice management unprofitability.

105

:

Rob Nixon: All right, I'm going

to target America on this one,

106

:

not so much the UK and Australia.

107

:

Get rid of the desktop or

hosted versions of the software.

108

:

Just turn it off, right?

109

:

Seriously, UK and Australia, New

Zealand, we're already there.

110

:

Nordic countries are already there,

but America and Canada, come on, right?

111

:

Vendors, just turn it off and

force everyone to go to the cloud.

112

:

so that's the first thing.

113

:

And you just got to force,

well, maybe you've got the.

114

:

The desktop or the hosted version,

the accountants will use it.

115

:

Cause they don't want

to change, turn it off.

116

:

Right.

117

:

Second, provide content with the data,

you know, so the data of the practice

118

:

managed numbers and analytics, how

about provide some content as to

119

:

what they can do with that number.

120

:

And, and the third one.

121

:

is with the, cloud vendors with who

connecting the practice management suite

122

:

to the, client, accounting is provide

predictive analytics, you know, back

123

:

to the accountant, you know, provide,

you know, ebbs and flows and cash flow

124

:

and accounts receivable and accounts

payable and alert the accountant

125

:

as to what's going on their client

business, because that may help the

126

:

accountant be more proactive, you at

a minimum, the accountant will know

127

:

what's going on their client business.

128

:

Rob Brown: Let's hear from Rob Pilsen's

accounting firm, coach mentor and

129

:

consultant based in Australia known.

130

:

The strategic advice that

transforms accounting practices.

131

:

Into more efficient, profitable

and enjoyable businesses.

132

:

Rob Pillans: So, fundamentally, I've got

three or four things that I would love

133

:

to see, you know, the tech, the software

companies doing in relation to accounts.

134

:

Firstly, please, don't launch

half baked products that are

135

:

solutions looking for a problem.

136

:

Right.

137

:

You know, please deliver software that is

actually genuinely delivering on, solving

138

:

a problem that an account might have.

139

:

And of course, because I'm an

accounting firm coach and consultant

140

:

and mentor, I'm thinking, of course,

from an accounting firm perspective.

141

:

And every now and again, people

say they're just not doing that.

142

:

So that's the first one.

143

:

secondly, just genuinely listen

to the feedback from your

144

:

users and actually act on it.

145

:

I still feel like that's

not happening enough.

146

:

Third, make your tools super connective

in terms of having a robust, a robust

147

:

API, so that you can, you know,

be connecting with other tools.

148

:

And then lastly, and I, I think

really importantly, and I get this

149

:

feedback from a few of my clients.

150

:

Please, as a tech company, a software

provider, stop trying to tell accountants

151

:

how to run a better accounting firm,

and actually just tell them what your

152

:

software does and how it helps them and

what problems it solves, because I don't

153

:

think there's enough of that going on.

154

:

Microphone (TONOR TC30 Audio Device)-2:

So they have five grand

155

:

answer to the question.

156

:

What could the tech and software vendors

do better to serve accountants each

157

:

work in depth that week, Monday through

Friday, we give you the insights of five

158

:

top influencers in the accounting world.

159

:

On this critical area of the

tech providers, software vendors

160

:

and how they serve accountants.

161

:

That's 25 valuable perspectives,

viewpoints and best thinking every week.

162

:

And with each fresh week comes a

fresh question and more thoughts

163

:

from the best accounting leaders

and influences we can find.
